ABOUT A BIRD

Katerina is a Visual Artist and Director based on the Surf Coast of Victoria near Bells Beach. A proud generalist, she is also the Creative Director and Founder of award winning creative and production studio Catch The Bird.

Katerina grew up in Tasmania and is a self taught artist. She was never without a pencil as a kid and began collecting and drawing from issues of Black and White Magazine in her teens. This first informed her current aesthetic and passion for figurative realism. After graduating with a ‘Plan B’ Law degree, she pursued performing arts and was soon signed as an actor under Melissa Rose Management. After years collaborating with theatre and film production teams, she was drawn to create her own content again and in 2008, she founded Catch The Bird with fellow creative Nick Green. She has since produced work for global brands, leading agencies and artists across media platforms. Katerina was recently honoured to be a judge at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival and also joined the ranks at The Directors Group. In now reconnecting with fine art, Katerina produces pieces that tread a fine line between painterly and photorealistic and she enjoys playing with the illusion of perfection. All of her works of realism are created freehand, most often on a large, colourful scale and are a talking point. Katerina’s unguarded work could be described as both modern and nostalgic and is also an extension of her personal style. Her intimate oil paintings and drawings consider a seductive intersection of image, identity and essence, exploring womanhood through her eyes. Her unique experience on both sides of the lens has helped shape her aesthetic, drawing on influence from photography, advertising, social media, fashion and film. She sells her original works and fine art prints locally and internationally. Recently, Katerina’s works were collected by Joshua Plant of the Susan Blonde Group New York, who said: ‘I love buying Katerina’s art. I can’t get enough of them…Simply Brilliant’. Her artwork also features on the The Block 2023, who posted: ‘We are obsessed with the artworks of Katerina Larsen.’
